On September 7, 2026 at 15:00 Korea Standard Time, one of South Korea's largest exchanges stopped supporting BONK trading. It had announced the delisting on August 7, citing the unresolved July 6 governance attack that drained about $20 million in BONK from the BonkDAO treasury. BONK still rose that week. CoinGecko's daily price went from $0.000002789 on August 31 to $0.000003406 on September 7 (00:00 UTC), a gain of about 22%. The gain reversed within three days: the price was $0.000002876 by September 10.
The delisting that took effect on September 7
Coin Insider reported the announcement on August 7, 2026. Its account says:
- Trading end: BONK/KRW and BONK/USDT stopped at 15:00 KST on September 7, 2026. Open orders were cancelled when trading stopped.
- Withdrawals: open until October 7, 2026, 30 days after the trading cutoff. Deposits sent after the cutoff would not be credited.
- Reasons given: a security incident whose cause was unidentified or unremedied, slow disclosure of material information by the token's operators, and unresolved grounds for the cautionary designation the exchange placed on BONK on July 7.
- Price reaction (August 7–8): an intraday low of $0.00000255, the lowest level since November 2023, and a 30.5% fall over the previous month.
What this means for holders: the withdrawal window closed on October 7, 2026. Anyone who still had BONK on that venue after that date has to deal with the exchange directly. The delisting covered one regional venue. BONK itself is a Solana token (contract DezXAZ8z7PnrnRJjz3wXBoRgixCa6xjnB7YaB1pPB263, per CoinGecko), and decentralised exchanges on Solana can still trade it.
Background: how the treasury was drained (July 6, 2026)
No smart contract was exploited. The attacker passed a governance vote, as reported by CoinDesk on July 7, 2026:
- June 30: a proposal titled "BIP #76 - Sowellian BonkDAO" was submitted.
- July 4–5: the attacker bought just over 1% of BONK's supply for about $4.4 million. 1% of supply was the quorum, and part of the purchase was reportedly made with borrowed funds from DeFi lending platforms.
- July 6: the proposal passed with 882.38 billion BONK in favour, against a threshold of 879.95 billion. Seven wallets voted. Turnout was 2.9%, and more than 18,000 members did not vote. The treasury then sent 4.43 trillion BONK to the attacker's wallet.
- Funds: about $188,000 went to an exchange and roughly $19 million to a multisig wallet.
- Price: BONK fell 7% in the 24 hours after the attack.
BonkDAO confirmed the attack. It said it had identified the exchange wallets used to buy tokens before the vote and was working with exchanges, bridges and the Solana Foundation. Follow-up reports said BonkDAO issued updates on July 13 (related wallets flagged and monitored) and July 23 (recovery still under way). We found no public confirmation that any of the funds have been recovered or frozen as of October 25, 2026.
The lesson for any token-voting DAO: a quorum set as a share of supply can be met by buying tokens when turnout is low. In this case it cost about $4.4 million to move roughly $20 million.
