HBAR Price Prediction: The 2022 Forecasts vs. HBAR in October 2026

HBAR trades near $0.077 in October 2026, about 86% below its 2021 high. How the 2022 forecasts held up, and what has changed at Hedera since.

· By ZIPMEX · 19 min read

HBAR was at $0.0772 on 25 October 2026, according to CoinGecko. That gives it a market value of about $3.42 billion and puts it roughly 86% below its all-time high of $0.5692, set on 15 September 2021. In 2022 this page quoted forecasts of $0.70 and $2.40 for HBAR. Neither has happened. The 2021 high still stands, so every forecast above that level has failed so far. The rest of this article compares those forecasts with the record and lists what has actually changed at Hedera since then.

What changed most recently

October 2026: agent accounts announced

On 8 October 2026 Hedera announced Hedera Agent Accounts. It describes them as "programmable, non-custodial spending accounts on Hedera": AI agents can spend within on-chain rules that the user sets, while the private keys stay in the user's wallet. They are not live yet. Hedera says a testnet launch is planned for Q4 2026 with a small group of partners, and expects mainnet around Q2 2027.

September 2026: CLPR handed to the Linux Foundation

On 24 September 2026 Hedera contributed CLPR to Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust as a new lab. CLPR is a protocol developed by Hashgraph that lets ledgers verify each other's states directly, without bridges.

March 2026: US regulators call HBAR a digital commodity

The Canary HBAR ETF's prospectus is dated 10 June 2026 and filed with the SEC. It says that on 17 March 2026 the SEC and the CFTC jointly issued an interpretive release that "specifically identified HBAR as a 'digital commodity' that is not itself a security." The same filing adds two caveats: the release "is an interpretive rule and not binding law," and the SEC could modify, supersede or withdraw it.

October 2025: a US spot HBAR fund

On 27 October 2025 The Block reported that Canary Capital planned to launch the Canary HBAR ETF on Nasdaq the following Tuesday, 28 October 2025. It described the fund as among the first of its kind in the US. According to the prospectus, the fund holds HBAR and pays its sponsor an annual fee of 0.95% of its HBAR holdings.

Lower supply pressure, a regulated fund and a clearer regulatory label have all arrived since 2022. HBAR still trades far below its 2021 peak.

How the 2022 forecasts held up

The 2022 version of this page cited three outside forecasts. Here is how each compares with the record:

Forecast cited in 2022What it saidOutcome by October 2026
CoinQuoraBullish case: a break above $0.58 resistance. Bearish case: a fall towards $0.13No break above $0.58: the high is still $0.5692 (2021). HBAR now trades below $0.13
EconomyWatchAbout $0.70 if HBAR closed above its high and retested itNot reached
UpToBrainAbout $2.40 by the end of 2022Not reached. The current price is about 3% of that target

This page did not re-check those forecasts against their original publications. The table records only what this page said in 2022. Whether each target was reached comes from CoinGecko's price record.

The lesson is general. Forecasts built on chart patterns or long-range targets set price levels without any way to make them happen. A forecast tells you what its author thinks might happen, not what will.

Worked examples (rise needed = (level ÷ price − 1) × 100)

  • The default price is CoinGecko's snapshot of 25 October 2026 ($0.0772); you can replace it with a later price.
  • The levels are the 2021 all-time high and the 2022 forecasts this page quoted. None of them is a prediction, and none has been reached since 2021.
  • A negative result means the level is below the price you entered.

This is arithmetic on two prices only: it does not forecast whether or when HBAR reaches any level, and it leaves out supply, regulation, fund demand and usage.

Price history in brief

  • 2018 token sales. Hedera raised $124 million across three token sales in 2018, according to The Block. CoinCodex lists the sale price as $0.12 per HBAR. That price comes from this single source and was not confirmed in Hedera's own filings. The prospectus states that the whole fixed supply of 50 billion HBAR was minted at launch in August 2018.
  • September 2019 open access. Hedera "opened to the public" on 16 September 2019 (Canary HBAR ETF prospectus). By December 2019 the price had fallen more than 90% from where trading began, The Block reported. Hedera then asked holders of simple agreements for future tokens (SAFTs) to delay their unlocks.
  • January 2020 low. The all-time low of $0.00986 came on 2 January 2020 (CoinGecko).
  • 2021 high. HBAR peaked at $0.5692 on 15 September 2021 (CoinGecko).
  • May 2022 leadership change. On 29 April 2022 Hedera announced that CEO Mance Harmon and Chief Scientist Dr. Leemon Baird would become co-CEOs of Swirlds Labs, effective 1 May 2022. Hedera's development and management teams moved with them.

What HBAR does

HBAR is the native token of the Hedera network. Its main job is paying network fees. Hedera sets those fees in US dollars, starting at $0.0001, and converts them to HBAR at the time of each transaction. A council of organisations operates and governs the network. Hedera says it is a rotating group of companies, institutions, non-profits and universities, and its HBAR page lists 31 members. The network uses hashgraph consensus, which orders transactions by consensus timestamps. Hedera lists 10,000+ transactions per second and 2.90 seconds to consensus finality.

The 2022 article said the network could handle "over 100,000 transactions in just one second." That figure has been corrected to the 10,000+ Hedera publishes today.

What could move the price

Each of these follows from the facts above. None is a forecast:

  • Supply. About 44.33 billion of the 50 billion HBAR circulate, so about 5.7 billion are not yet circulating. The release schedule for those tokens matters for supply.
  • Regulation. The March 2026 commodity label is non-binding guidance and can be withdrawn.
  • Fund demand. A US spot fund now exists. How much it holds is reported in its filings, not in forecasts.
  • Usage. Products such as Agent Accounts are still at the testnet stage. Mainnet is projected for Q2 2027.

Limitations: market data is CoinGecko's snapshot of 25 October 2026, and several historical figures come from one source each, as noted above. This is not investment advice.
