Immutable X was Immutable's first Ethereum rollup for NFTs and blockchain games. It no longer runs as a separate network. Immutable's own documentation says Immutable X was merged into Immutable Chain in "early 2026". Immutable Chain is the EVM-compatible network whose mainnet is listed as Immutable zkEVM. Immutable X's sequencer is "no longer processing new transactions", and "all Immutable X functionality is now deprecated and will be removed in future." IMX still exists. It is the native currency of Immutable zkEVM, and the ERC-20 contract on Ethereum caps supply at 2,000,000,000 IMX.
What Immutable X was
Immutable's deprecation page calls Immutable X "Immutable's first rollup", built with StarkWare as a customised StarkEx deployment. The same page says it processed hundreds of millions of transactions and billions of dollars in game-asset trading volume.
StarkEx is StarkWare's scaling engine. Transactions are validated off-chain, and an on-chain verifier checks a validity proof, so that, in StarkWare's words, "only valid data" is committed to Ethereum. StarkWare's StarkEx page still lists Immutable X among the applications its verifier served.
Timeline of the merger
- 8 April 2025 – plan announced. Immutable said it would merge Immutable X into Immutable zkEVM "to form one unified Immutable Chain". At the time it planned to finish within the year. Decrypt reported this on 9 April 2025. Immutable said Passport users would see their assets on zkEVM automatically, users of other wallets would have assets moved to their primary wallet, and users could opt out of automatic migration. Immutable X APIs would be deprecated. Collection addresses would change, and an API would map old addresses to new ones.
- 19 June 2025 – staking moves. IMX staking on Immutable X ended at 00:00 UTC on 19 June 2025 and moved to Immutable zkEVM, according to several news reports from June 2025. Staked IMX and pending rewards on Immutable X were reported to be unstaked automatically. Holders then had to stake again manually on zkEVM.
- Early 2026 – merger completed. Immutable's documentation gives "early 2026" and no exact day. The Immutable X bridge was combined with Immutable Chain's primary bridge through "a non-custodial bridge contract upgrade".
The merger finished later than first planned: 2025 at announcement, early 2026 in practice.
What happened to assets
From Immutable's deprecation documentation:
- Tokens (ETH, IMX and other ERC-20s) moved directly to Immutable Chain. They stay in the same wallet that was used on Immutable X; the page names MetaMask and Passport as examples. Immutable says it "had no access to your private keys or funds during this process."
- NFTs depended on the game and collection. Most moved automatically, but many projects used their own migration logic. For those, Immutable says to "consult with the project directly."
Status of Immutable X services
| Interface | Status per Immutable docs |
|---|---|
| Sequencer RPC (writes) | No longer processing new transactions |
| Sequencer RPC (reads) | Deprecated, will be removed in future |
| Explorer (immutascan.io) | Deprecated, will be removed in future |
| Marketplace | Removed |
@imtbl/core-sdk, @imtbl/imx-sdk-js | Deprecated; migrate to @imtbl/sdk |
Read access is deprecated, not yet removed. Old explorer links and read endpoints may stop working without further notice.
Used Immutable X? What to check now
Pick what you held or built on Immutable X to see where it went after the merger into Immutable Chain and what to check.
What did you have on Immutable X?
- Tokens (ETH, IMX or other ERC-20s) → Look in the same wallet on Immutable Chain
- NFTs or game items → next question
- Staked IMX → Staking now runs on Immutable zkEVM
- An app or integration built on the Immutable X SDKs → Move to @imtbl/sdk
Did the game or collection announce its own migration process?
- Yes, or I am not sure → Follow the project's own migration notice
- No, it moved automatically → Check the new collection address on Immutable Chain
Tokens moved directly to Immutable Chain and stay in the same wallet you used on Immutable X. Check that address on Immutable Chain (chain ID 13371), not on the old Immutable X explorer, which is deprecated. Confirm the chain ID against docs.immutable.com before you sign anything.
Many projects used their own migration logic, and Immutable says to consult the project directly. Collection addresses changed, so check the new address in the project's notice before you sign anything.
Most NFTs moved automatically, but collection addresses changed. Look for the collection under its new address on Immutable Chain (chain ID 13371); Immutable provides an API that maps old addresses to new ones.
IMX staking on Immutable X ended on 19 June 2025 and moved to Immutable zkEVM. News reports said staked IMX and pending rewards were unstaked automatically, and holders had to stake again manually on zkEVM.
@imtbl/core-sdk and @imtbl/imx-sdk-js are deprecated; Immutable says to migrate to @imtbl/sdk. The sequencer no longer processes new transactions, and read endpoints are deprecated and may stop working. Use Immutable's mapping API for old collection addresses.
This guide only points you to where Immutable's documentation and news reports say assets and services went. It cannot check your wallet or a project's migration status, and it does not cover staking reward rules or IMX's price.
Immutable Chain today
Immutable's Chain overview lists these network parameters:
| Mainnet | Testnet | |
|---|---|---|
| Network name | Immutable zkEVM | Immutable zkEVM Testnet |
| Chain ID | 13371 | 13473 |
| Native currency | IMX | tIMX |
| Parent chain | Ethereum | Sepolia |
| Block time / finality | ~2 seconds | ~2 seconds |
The chain is EVM-compatible. It uses an EIP-1559 gas model and the Cancun EVM version, and supports Solidity up to 0.8.28. Immutable says "gas sponsorship means players never pay fees" and offers it to Passport users.
What IMX is now
- Supply: The IMX contract on Ethereum (0xf57e7e7c23978c3caec3c3548e3d615c346e79ff) shows a maximum total supply of 2,000,000,000 IMX.
- Role: IMX is the native currency of Immutable zkEVM. Staking has run there since 19 June 2025. News reports from June 2025 describe two-week reward periods that required both staking and at least one NFT trade per period.
What to check if you used Immutable X
- Tokens: Look at the same wallet address on Immutable Chain (chain ID 13371). Do not look on the old Immutable X explorer.
- NFTs: Check the game's or collection's own migration notice. Addresses changed, and some projects ran their own process.
- Network settings: Before you sign anything, confirm the chain ID against docs.immutable.com. Scam sites often target users during migrations.
- Developers: Move off the deprecated Immutable X SDKs to
@imtbl/sdk. Use Immutable's mapping API for old collection addresses.
