My Neighbor Alice Explained: What the Game Is and How ALICE Works

My Neighbor Alice is a free-to-start browser farming game on Chromia. ALICE, a 100M-supply token, buys land and items and pays staking rewards.

My Neighbor Alice is a multiplayer farming and building game that runs on the Chromia blockchain. On 17 June 2025 it released "Chapter One: A New Adventure". Its press release called this the first full public release after several alpha and beta seasons. You play it in a web browser and can start in guest mode with no wallet and no tokens. Land, items and crafted goods can exist as NFTs. The ALICE token is used for purchases and staking, and governance is planned. The press release says you do not need the token to play. The Steam listing still says "Coming soon".

Where the game stands now

The dates below are given from newest to oldest.

  • February 2026: New Year airdrop. PlayToEarn reported on 2 February 2026 that the team had announced a 100,000 ALICE prize pool for active players. Quests were due to start on 5 February.
  • 17 June 2025: Chapter One. A GamingWire press release, republished by Decrypt, described a browser game that needs no download. It said players can use game features without paying transaction fees and that player progress and world state are stored on-chain. It also said ALICE went live on Chromia mainnet and that Pudgy Penguins NFT holders get in-game companions. These are the project's own claims, published as a sponsored press release.
  • 27 February 2025: 2025 roadmap. eGamers reported these planned items: WebGPU support for better performance on more devices, Guest Mode, a "Moxie" system that rewards levelling skills such as farming, fishing and crafting, Land Sharing, new regions and liquidity pools. No release dates were given. Guest Mode arrived with Chapter One.
  • 2024: Beta seasons. A press release dated 17 April 2024 announced Beta Season 1 and said the alpha seasons had ended. The season added emotes, a player-to-player trading system, new crafting stations and a redesigned marketplace. Later, the official Telegram announcement channel said "Beta Season 2 will officially launch on September 24th, 2024!" Before that, the channel had posted "Staking is live".
  • December 2023: move to Chromia. Decrypt reported on 12 December 2023 that the game had moved from BNB Chain to Chromia and launched Season 4. A bridge let NFT owners move their assets to Chromia. Chromia's mainnet was not due until 2024, so the game ran on a Chromia "appnet", a separate instance of the chain for specific apps.

Who makes it

Steam lists ChromaWay as developer and publisher. According to the game's whitepaper, ChromaWay started the Chromia blockchain and still maintains it. Antler Interactive, the Swedish studio first linked to the game, was acquired by ChromaWay on 4 December 2019, according to CB Insights.

How the game works

The game is set in the Lummelunda Archipelago. According to the whitepaper, it has six islands:

IslandWhitepaper description
LummestadCentral town with shops; main events and social hub
Snowflake IslandFrozen north-west area with ice sculptures
Medieval PlainsLow vegetation and stonework, suited to grazing cows
Nature's RestDense, glowing forest
Sandy CoastSandy region made up of several islands
Submerged IslandsWaters with shipwrecks, chests and pirates

Each land plot is an NFT. The whitepaper says players can buy plots from the game or on the marketplace. They can then decorate them with houses, lakes, animals and plants. In January 2024, Games.gg listed these gameplay features:

  • farming, fishing, mining and wood gathering
  • crafting
  • community quests
  • avatar customisation through a companion app, Alice's Wardrobe

How land was first sold

Chromia's blog and DailyCoin reported how the first land sale worked in May 2021:

  1. Players registered by depositing 20 ALICE.
  2. They then staked ALICE or CHR for 14 days, from 27 April to 11 May at 12:00 UTC, to earn lottery tickets.
  3. A random draw gave out 927 plots in Nature's Rest, with one plot per address.
  4. Winners paid with their 20 ALICE deposit.
  5. After the draw, "unused funds and staked funds can now be retrieved by users."

Later sales used other formats. An August 2022 sale was run as an auction.

How should you start with My Neighbor Alice?

Answer two questions to see the starting step the article describes for what you want from the game.

  1. What do you want to do first?

  2. How do you plan to play?

  3. Do you expect the game to earn you money?

Start in guest mode

Chapter One's guest mode runs in the browser with no download, no wallet and no tokens. Play only at the official domain, myneighboralice.com: fake game sites are a common way of stealing wallet access.

Steam is not out yet: use the browser

The Steam listing still says "Coming soon", and the browser version is the current way to play. The Steam minimum specs are Windows 10 64-bit, Intel Core i5-6400, 8 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 1060 and 10 GB of storage, or Apple M1 with macOS 12.

Create a wallet only when you need one

You need a wallet to mint assets or save progress. Connect it only at myneighboralice.com. ALICE and in-game NFTs can lose most of their value, and collateral floors are a design goal, not a guarantee.

Treat earning as a game feature, not income

Rewards depend on events such as the 2026 airdrop, on player demand for items and on the ALICE price, and none of these is guaranteed. About 9,200 Ethereum addresses hold ALICE, and we found no official page confirming that NFT-backed loans or monthly interest are live.

This only sorts the article's practical points by what you want to do. It does not check your device or confirm current reward rates, land prices or staking terms, and it is not a judgement on whether to buy ALICE or NFTs.

What the token is for, according to the whitepaper

  • buying assets, land and special skills in the marketplace
  • letting owners charge rental or visitor fees for land and assets
  • unlocking certain quests and features, such as opening a store, that only ALICE holders can use
  • staking to earn rewards
  • gifting and sending tokens to other players
  • play-to-earn, where quest experience points can be exchanged for transferable in-game assets
  • voting in the Community Council

The DeFi features: what is designed and what is shown live

The whitepaper's DeFi section describes three mechanisms: staking, NFT collateral and renting. A separate section covers governance. Much of this material is a plan rather than a description of the live game. It uses words such as "might" and "will" and was written early in the game's development.

NFT collateral

The whitepaper says "a percentage of the purchase price might go into a collateral pool associated with NFT." The holder can then sell the NFT back to the system for all or part of the locked collateral, and the NFT is destroyed. The whitepaper says this "guarantees that the value of NFT cannot go below a certain threshold". It says the pool would also allow loans that use the NFT as collateral, and it mentions "a monthly interest on their NFT holdings". In January 2024, games.gg reported a version of this that works through crafting. Part of the ALICE spent on an item becomes collateral inside it, and burning the item returns that ALICE.

Staking

The DeFi section says the team "will allocate a fair amount of tokens on staking rewards". It adds that these rewards "will progressively decrease as new features will be released". The token page adds that holders could earn a percentage of platform revenue, such as income from plot sales, asset sales and transaction fees. The official channel announced in 2024 that staking was live.

Renting

NFTs, including land, can be rented out. According to the whitepaper, the smart contract stops the borrower from reselling or destroying the asset and returns it to the owner when the rental ends.

Governance

The Community Council is described as a DAO that any ALICE holder may join. It uses liquid democracy: members vote directly or delegate their votes to someone else. It "is expected to overtake the majority of in-game decision-making powers." The whitepaper's section on the Council's legal structure is still a placeholder.

Practical points before you start

  • Start free. Chapter One's guest mode needs no wallet or tokens. You can create a wallet later if you want to mint assets or save progress.
  • Use the official domain. The game is at myneighboralice.com. Fake game sites are a common way to steal access to wallets.
  • Hardware. The browser version is the current way to play. The Steam listing's minimum specs are much higher than older guides suggest: Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i5-6400, 8 GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 1060 and 10 GB of storage, or an Apple M1 with macOS 12.
  • Treat "earning" as a game feature, not income. Rewards depend on events such as the 2026 airdrop, on player demand for items and on the ALICE price. None of these is guaranteed. About 9,200 addresses hold ALICE on Ethereum (Etherscan), a small holder base on that chain.
  • Risks. ALICE and in-game NFTs can lose most of their value. A collateral floor is a design goal, not a guarantee. The token depends on the continued development of a single game.
